Zavod RISA

Zavod RISA is a non-governmental organization from Slovenia. It was established in 2011. Zavod Risa is the first organization in Slovenia to systematically develop the concept of Easy-to-read in Slovene.

Zavod RISA produces information in Slovene Easy-to-read form. It publishes Easy-to-read books and a newspaper called 20 MINUTES. The newspaper is available freely on the internet. RISA also teaches people how to make Easy-to-read information. End-users and co-creators of RISAs services are people who have difficulty obtaining and passing on information.

Many people work for Zavod RISA. The staff includes educators personal assistants, project coordinators, and others. Important part of the team are volunteers and self-advocates.

Zavod RISA works together with many organizations, like Slovene associations of people with disabilities. It has been a part of many Erasmus+ projects such as EASIT: Easy Access for Social Inclusion Training; myPart: Participatory Approaches in the Civic Education with and for People with Intellectual Disabilities; PERLSI: Project Promoting Easy-to-Read Language for Social Inclusion; Professional training for easy-to-read facilitators and validators – TRAIN2VALIDATE, SIMPL4ALL.

RTV Slovenija

RTV Slovenija

Radiotelevizija Slovenija is Slovenia’s national public broadcasting organization. RTV Slovenija produces radio and television programmes and online content. RTV Slovenija is committed to make accessible content for people with different needs. RTV Slovenija provides subtitling of RTV Slovenija broadcasts for deaf and hard of hearing, sign language interpretation for deaf viewers, makes audio descriptions for the blind and visually impaired for chosen audio-visual programs and also provides audio subtitles.

Accessibility Team at RTV Slovenija creates two special web portals: Dostopno and Enostavno. Dostopno is a thematic portal that covers the subjects related to the lives of people with disabilities and their needs and rights; it is also a repository of all radio and TV shows with accessibility techniques. Enostavno is a special news portal written in easy to understand language. This is the only news portal in Slovenia to provide daily news in easy to understand language.

RTV Slovenija participated in many European-funded projects. Two projects directly related to the topic of accessibility are ADLAB PRO: Audio Description: A Laboratory for the development of a new professional (2016-2019) and EASIT: Easy Access for Social Inclusion Training (2018-2021).

Dyslexiförbundet is a Swedish disability association. The association was established in 1979. It is a non-profit organization of and for people who have difficulties reading, writing and calculating.
Dyslexiförbundet has approximately 6,000 members of different ages. The members are organized in approximately 50 local associations around Sweden. The organization performs many different tasks. For instance: guidance and support, different information activities, education, interest policy, and social events.

They are also managing or participating in different projects with the aim to make everyday life easier for people with dyslexia or other forms of reading and writing difficulties and for people with dyscalculia or other forms of problems with arithmetic.

Dyslexiförbundet was one of the eight partners in the Erasmus+ project EASIT. The project dealt with media and information accessibility, with a focus on audiovisual content.

The Easy Language Agency was established in 2000. It is a non-govermental organisation which aim is to facilitate the provision of accessible information, including the use of easy language in communication between state and municipal authorities and private entities. The organization also conducts training on accessible information to improve the use of easy language. It prepares, translates, and adapts information into easy language. It also publishes various materials in accessible formats.

The Easy Language Agency cooperates with state, municipal institutions, non-governmental organizations and others both in the Republic of Latvia and abroad. In recent years, the Easy Language Agency has organized seminars on the preparation of accessible information for various public institutions. For example for the State Revenue Service, the Ministry of Welfare, the Latvian Language Agency, Latvian Radio etc.

The organization has also participated in working groups of public authorities to provide expertise on the importance of access to information in the service delivery process. In recent years, the organization has participated in a number of procurements and projects aimed at providing easy-to-read information and representing the interests of target groups.

Vilniaus universitetas

Vilnius University is the largest scientific institution in Lithuania. It was founded in 1579. It has approximately 21.000 students. The Institute of Applied Linguistics is a part of the Faculty of Philology of Vilnius University. It has been involved in various research projects dealing with Easy-to-read Lithuanian, language teaching and testing and language use of Lithuanian emigrants of different generations.

The Institute’s staff has decades of experience in teaching Lithuanian (and other foreign languages) as a second language, conducting language tests, and organizing various teacher qualification courses. The team members of this project all have experience in language teaching, language testing, preparing materials for translators of Easy-to-Read Lithuanian, and translating texts into Easy Lithuanian.

The latest project of the Institute of Applied Linguistics was “Promoting Easy-to-Read Language for Social Inclusion” (PERLSI). The main outcomes of the project are Guidelines for Easy-to-Read Lithuanian, Level Descriptions for Easy-to-Read Lithuanian, Graded Readers, Online Study Course “Easy-to-Read Lithuanian”.

VŠĮ Informacijos kaupimo ir sklaidos centras

VšĮ Information collection and dissemination center (IKSC) is a non-govermental organization. It was founded in 2008. VšĮ IKSC seeks full integration of persons with intellectual disability into society. It provides Lithuanian people with intellectual disabilities and their families all the required information about possibilities to meet their social, cultural, and other needs. It seeks to educate the general public about the possibilities of contributing to the opportunities of people with intellectual disabilities.

VšĮ IKSC organizes trainings and various activities on national and international levels. As a partner it participates in the Erasmus + project in the field of Easy-to-read language use and promotion in Lithuania. Currently it is organizing Easy-to-read courses for other NGOs and Lithuanian governing institutions working in the field of disability. The main priority of organization is to collect and disseminate information about the need of Easy-to-read language in Lithuanian society.

The University of Pavia is one of the world’s oldest academic institutions. It has been established in 1361. There are more than 900 professors and researchers working at the university, and there are around 24.000 students.

UNIPV is part of many national and European projects (Erasmus+, Strategic Partnerships, and Horizon 2020). In these projects, UNIPV plays roles both as a coordinating institution and a collaborative partner. The university strongly supports research partnerships with top academic institutions worldwide and fosters an environment that encourages diverse research. It has 42 research centers focused on both basic and applied interdisciplinary research. The university’s Department of Humanities is heavily involved in various research areas, especially focusing on language and linguistics, foreign languages, linguistic complexity, simplification, audiovisual translation, and analyzing spoken language, especially in learning contexts.

Founded in 1924, the University of Trieste is a medium-sized university with a student population of approximately 20,000. It currently has 10 departments, and it offers a wide range of degree programmes at bachelor, master and doctoral level as well as short vocational masters, advanced masters and specialisation programmes. Trieste is a dynamic capital of research, focused on sustainable growth and development, with impact that extends beyond Italy to the rest of Europe and the developing world.

UNITS was the lead partner of the ADLAB PRO project thorough SSLMIT, the Section for the Study of Modern Languages, Interpretation and Translation of the Department of Legal, Language, Translation and Interpreting Studies. SSLMIT is one of the most qualified places in Italy where research and training on media accessibility, translation and interpreting are actively promoted. SSLMIT was also the lead partner of ADLAB, and a partner of EASIT. The Department of Humanities (DiSU), involved in SELSI, is an open space for discussion and comparison, based on constant reflection on the central role of the humanities in the present and future.
